Benzoin
Styrax benzoin

Benzoin absolute and resinoid are obtained from the pathological exudate of Styrax species; their principal constituents are benzoic acid and cinnamic acid esters — particularly benzyl benzoate, benzyl cinnamate, and coniferyl benzoate — responsible for a warm, sweet-vanilla aroma that has been used in traditional wound-healing and antiseptic preparations across Southeast Asia and Europe for centuries.[1] A phytochemical characterisation of S. benzoin resin confirmed antibacterial activity with binding affinity to bacterial target proteins.[2]
