Labdanum
Cistus ladaniferus

Labdanum absolute or resinoid is derived from Cistus ladanifer, a Mediterranean rockrose, and is dominated by the labdane diterpene alcohols and sesquiterpene hydrocarbons — including labdanolic acid derivatives and viridiflorol. The material is chemically complex with over 200 identified compounds. It has demonstrated antimicrobial and antioxidant properties, and its rich ambergris-like odour has made it a key fixative and amber note in perfumery since antiquity.[1]
